Highlight and Outstanding Feature
- ■There were 1,028 bankruptcies (869 bankruptcies in the same month of the previous year, up 18.3% year-on-year), exceeding the figure for the same month of the previous year for the first time in two months. The number of bankruptcies exceeded 1,000 for the first time in approximately two years since May 2024. Both the number of bankruptcies and the rate of increase were the highest so far this year.
- ■Liabilities totaled 129,266 million yen (98,558 million yen in the same month last year, up 31.2%), marking the fourth consecutive month of year-on-year increase. Réve Co., Ltd., an affiliate of Kizuna Holdings Co., Ltd., which provided employment support services for the disabled, had the largest liabilities, at 7,802 million yen.
- ■By industry, all seven major industry categories recorded year-on-year increases for the first time in about two years. The service industry (to 291 bankruptcies from 241 in the same month of the previous year, up 20.7%) saw the most bankruptcies, posting the highest figure since the year 2000. The share was also the second-highest since 2000. This was followed by the retail industry (to 213 bankruptcies from 185 in the same month of the previous year, up 15.1%), the highest June figure since 2000.
- ■In terms of primary cause, “recession-induced bankruptcies” numbered 831, exceeding 800 for the first time in about two years.
- ■There were 989 “liquidation-type bankruptcies,” surpassing 900 in June for the first time in 15 years.
- ■By size, bankruptcies of companies with liabilities of “less than 50 million yen” and the “Individuals and under 10 million yen” capital class were the highest since 2000.
- ■By years in business, the number of bankruptcies of “start-ups” was 308, the second-highest figure since the year 2000.
- ■By region, eight of nine regions experienced year-on-year increases. Chubu (to 160 from 121 in the same month of the previous year, up 32.2%) had the third-highest number of bankruptcies since 2000, following June 2011 (162). The largest rate of increase was in Shikoku (to 23 bankruptcies from 14 in the same month of the previous year, up 64.3%), recording year-on-year increases for the sixth consecutive month.
