The economic diffusion index (DI) in March 2021 was 38.0, up 2.2 points from the previous month for the second straight month. The domestic economy has gradually become more active after the state of emergency was lifted, and improved for the second straight month.

Future outlook: Gradual upswing from spring onwards

The economy is expected to improve at a moderate pace, albeit with downward risk.

Primary points of survey results(summary)

  1. 1 By industry : The economy turned positive in all ten industries, and continued an upswing mainly in semiconductor and automobile.
  2. 2 By size : The economy turned positive in all sizes for the second straight month. Household consumption remained strong.
  3. 3 By region : The economy improved in all ten regions for the second straight month. DI rose in 45 prefectures, compared to the same month last year.
